We at Sasha and Sarba Shanti Ayog had another jubilant month, with activities and events ranging from workshops, visits, pop up, book-reading and exhibitions.
Festive Fervor and The Ants Pop Up at Sasha Shop
At, Sasha, we always try to make the festive seasons memorable.
Sasha was delighted to present The Ants Store, Bangalore pop up at the Sasha Shop. The idea was to bring forth positive stories from the north-east and create a space exclusively for the crafts and textiles of the north-east region. The pre-festive collection comprised of authentic hand-woven sarees & garments from Bengal & Northeast; exquisite handcrafted jewellery & accessories. The event was inaugurated by noted natural dye & northeast enthusiast, Nandini Dutta and well-known actor Badsha Maitra.
Author in Conversation – Bishwanath Ghosh at Sasha Shop
We were happy to invite, Bishwanath Ghosh, writer & journalist, who shared about his latest book – Gazing at the Neighbours: Travels along the Line that partitioned India. Wherein he writes about his journey along the Radcliffe line. He was in conversation with Navpreet Arora of FunOnStreets. A select audience was glad to join the author in a tete-a-tete with the author over cups of tea.

Impact Assessment Study with FTG-N
SSA designed and conducted a one-day workshop on impact assessment with members of Fair Trade Group Nepal under SOIR-IM project. The workshop was attended by 27 members from various FTOs in Nepal. The workshop was focused on building in-house capacity in conducting impact study by way of the collaborating FTOs. The workshop also stressed on the need and importance of impact assessments, using it as a tool for effective monitoring and evaluation of the programmes and as Fair Trade organizations, being able to measure the impact of the Fair Trade practices. Detailed discussions were done on types of framework primarily based at the goals to conduct impact assessment study at any FTO, including methodology, tools and levels of assessments. The workshop was well appreciated by the participants. The workshop was conducted by Sujata Goswami and assisted by Sayanti Banerjee.
A half-day session on Advocacy was conducted FTG Nepal Board. A meeting was organized with Board members on the development of strategic partnerships between SSA and FTG Nepal. The Nepal intervention also included visits to two of the members, ACP and KTS. In KTS, the working of the jigger and waste water treatment was studied in detail. While in ACP, various textile processes and other craft processes were seen.
Design Clinic II
SSA has organized a design clinic with its partners under the SPIR-IM project. The workshop was attended by 11 participants from 6 organisations. Ms. Achira Basu from Kolkata was the resource person for this workshop. She focussed on the four basic elements of design-color, form, shape & spaces. She then discussed that the strategy to improve the quality of the products preserving the costing identical or to increase the price of the products while adding value to it. She provided generic as well as specific inputs to the participants. The workshop was well appreciated by the participants.
