The month of June was quite an eventful month at Sasha with activities around the World Environment Day, jewellery workshop and the launch of the financial inclusion programme. There was a great deal of excitement as Sasha clothing & accessories were featured on the Fashion Catalogue launched by the World Fair Trade Organization; the launch of the Aparajita, developed with Jaypore.com and the pop up at Tatsat, New Delhi! These activities summed the entire gamut of the multi-faceted activities of Sasha and SSA
World Environment Day
World Environment Day was celebrated at the Sasha shop and the focus was on sustainable lifestyles. The merchandize featured a range of products that are sustainable, organic, locally made and Fair Trade. Featured at the event were featuring Natural dyed clothing by Papri Basak and Sasha. Also for the first time, Bhoomi Ka were invited to Sasha Shop with their Clean | Green | Fair food products- India’s friendliest small holder food movement. Zero waste lifestyle products from Ethic Attic like metallic straws, bamboo toothbrushes, Sabai grass from Banglanatak.com, Seed jewellery from Daricha Foundation and RASA Natural skin & hair range were the major highlight.
The highlight of the day was meeting Ashwika Kapur, Wildlife filmmaker and the youngest winner of Green Panda Award; and share snippets from “Sirocco–How A Dud Became A Stud”, the award winning documentary. Ashwika made clear that we need too, in earnest address increasing horror of climate change, and how it is appalling that several governments of the world are simply denying the impending global risk of a mammoth magnitude. Ashwika was born and raised in Kolkata. She spoke chiefly about her most popular film which is on the subject of the highly endangered kakapo birds of New Zealand. The film’s humorous tone and Sirocco’s adorable waddle instantly charmed all viewers, who were convinced by the end that this bird was indeed born to be a star. Ashwika also shared glimpses of some of the other films she has been part of, in her short yet remarkable journey as a film maker. Read more about the day:
