June 2015 News

Fair Trade has made a tangible contribution to the fight against poverty, climate change and the economic crisis that has the greatest impact on the world’s most vulnerable populations. The World Fair Trade Day is an initiative of the World Fair Trade Organization (WFTO) that takes place on the second Saturday of May.

The Month of May brought with it the promise of exciting events. The Fair Fashion show that had been postponed in the month of April was finally held on The WORLD FAIR TRADE DAY. ‘It’s Our Turn to Lead’- This event was a joint effort by SASHA and Earth Day Network supporters and friends. It was an invite for the enthusiasts to inspire change through fashion. A time to harness the force for a cause that affects one and all.

SASHA World Fair Trade Day June 2015

This World Fair Trade Day was celebrated with our Producer Partners, each an “Agent of Change”. On this occasion, our group members presented sessions of poetry recitation, music and dance. All present acknowledged the multi-talented facets of the group members. Apart from being leaders in their community and area of work they are skilled craftswomen too. They shared their journeys to becoming Agents of Change and what it means to them. It was in the city of Milan that we once again recognized and celebrated the impact of FairTrade relationships around the world.

Adding a sparkle to our World Fair Trade Day Signature Campaign – danseuse and an old friend of Sasha’s, Alokananda Roy.

We share some moments of excitement at the shop, at the Textile Association and a retail outlet in Calcutta where the campaign’s importance was discussed. The Fair Trade is more than reinforcing support for livelihood programmes, safety and well being of artisans. It advocates for the rights of marginalized producers and workers.
